FLI Records Statement
FLI Records strives to not just be another record label, but a beacon of hope to high risk Aboriginal youth in remote northern communities.
FLI Records is not your average record company. We don’t choose our artists by whether they’re the best, or if they can make us the most money. We choose our artists for their character, for the changes we see in their lives, and by the messages that they convey in their music.
There are many rappers, singers and beat producers all over north-western Ontario and many of these people need to have their music heard. They need to feel appreciated and feel the pride in themselves that so many are lacking. Suicide is a major issue in these communities and we feel that self-esteem plays a big factor in that – FLI Records wants to give them that needed self-esteem.
Establishing a full-service recording studio in Thunder Bay is the first phase of this project. We will record, master and publish all CD’s in-house. FLI Records will also partner with Alphabet Productions to create music videos for select artists. Once complete, this studio will give the artists the full superstar treatment for their music projects.
Through the generosity of the Regional Multicultural Association of Northwestern Ontario, we have secured office space at 511 East Victoria Street in Thunder Bay, Ontario. We will need to renovate this space, purchase furnishings, as well as recording and duplication equipment.
The second phase is the purchase of home studio equipment so we can provide aspiring talent with the means of making their own recordings. The selection of this equipment will be based on finding the balance between quality and price. We will be approaching different music suppliers for discounts and/or donations.
The third phase will be promotions. Partnering with Meekis Designs, we will be creating artist websites, doing photo shoots, designing posters and CD covers, setting up tracks for distribution, as well as organizing concerts within the artists’ own communities. Partnering with the North-South Partnership, FLI Records’ artists will have access to the southern Ontario market that very few Northern Ontario markets currently enjoy.
FLI Records hopes to start an outpouring of talent from the north, but to do so we need help. We need partners to help us get the needed equipment. If there’s a way to help us with renovations, we’d gladly accept it. We need help getting the word out.
